Listserv – nmculture

The Listserv (nmculture) facilitates sharing of information about arts events going on in New Mexico. It receives an average of 3-5 messages a day. It is run in an open discussion list format. All members can post to the list.

Like all Listservs, the CultureNet Connections Listserv works because users stay on topic and apply common sense and courtesy. Topics for this list might include upcoming events of interest, fund raising efforts, or even spirited discussion on the role that the Humanities & Arts play in maintaining a healthy society—but, if a post is not about Culture in New Mexico then it doesn’t belong here.

Use our handy form (above) to subscribe and unsubscribe from the Listserv. If you encounter difficulties using the form or prefer to do this “manually,” then follow the directions below:

• Send an email to nmculture-request@vivanewmexico.com
• Leave the subject of the email blank and include the word SUBSCRIBE (or UNSUBSCRIBE if that’s what you are trying to do) in the body of the email
• The list software (known as Majordomo) will process your request using the address from which you sent the email
• You should receive a confirmation email within a few minutes of sending your request containing information about posting to the list, unsubscribing, and other features of the Majordomo software used to manage the list
• Once you are subscribed, you can send email to thousands of others interested in New Mexico arts and culture by sending email to nmculture@vivanewmexico.com

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT UNSUBSCRIBING

1. Sending the unsubscribe email request from an email address other than the one they subscribed to the list with
   For example, you have two email addresses - person@mydomain.com and another@comcast.net - which was the one you used to subscribe to this list. You click the unsubscribe email link at the bottom of the newsletter. A new email message appears. But you don't confirm that you are sending the email from another@comcast.net, because your email software is set to use person@mydomain.com as the default. You click the send button, and think you are done. But in reality, you unsubscribed an email address that never was subscribed to the list. So you assume that the unsubscribed failed.
   
   Even if you include the correct subscription email address in the body of the email - it will NOT unsubscribe from the list. This is automated software and is only looking at who sent the email.
2. Entering an email address on the Unsubscribe website other than the one you subscribed with.
   Basically the same as above, but done through the web interface on NMCultures website.
   
   This is a very common unsubscribe problem. Most people have multiple email addresses these days. So it is a common mistake.
   
   If you are unsure of what address you subscribed with, most email applications (Outlook, Mac OS X Mail, Outlook Express) provide the option to view a messages 'Long headers". In this section, you will usually find a parameter 'Delivered-To' This will be followed by a close approximation of the email address you are subscribed to the list with (it may include some initial numbers --- ignore those).
   
   Use this email address to unsubscribe, and use the form on this page, or send only to the list command email address.
3. Unable to receive mail from list administrator
   Your email account must be able to receive email from the listserv management address, majordomo@swcp.com. You will need to check any spam filtering software or whitelists and be sure to whitelist this email address. For security reasons, we require a confirmation of all subscriptions to the listserv.

Under no circumstances should you send subscribe or unsubscribe requests to the list itself.
This is very unprofessional conduct and serves to:

1. Aggravate other members of the list
2. Get your personal email address permanently blacklisted on large mail servers
3. Other people may permanently block your personal email address on their computers

The Newsletter (nmcn-news) is a montly publication of New Mexico CultureNet. In it, we share the latest information about our programs and events as well as new features on our Web site. Read the current issue at www.NMCultureNet.org/cultureletter

The Newsletter is a distribution list only and is purposely not set-up to facilitate online discussions to ensure a low volume of messages. If you want to discuss arts- and culture-related topics, you should consider subscribing to our Listserv or visiting our online bulletin board, CultureNet Community.

• Once you are subscribed, you can expect to receive one message a month from New Mexico CultureNet
