Artist’s Statement
In my art, its basic impulse comes from my love of play combined with the more grownup notion of seeing the evidence of such play “get organized.” I love poetry and the free associations or thematic notions that my mind can pull together; enjoy seeing chaotic marks eventually “live” in a coherent structure of some kind, combined into a malleable, sometimes recognizable, mostly newly known spaces and environs. There is a love of mystery, of posing questions that might not necessarily get answered or resolved. Process is always honored. The beginning, the middle and the final statements in my pictures always like to appear in the finalized picture, simultaneously. In other words, I am basically an expressionist, although one can see intimations of thematics, occult spirituality, and fussy editing in the final product.
